Two different counties in one
Howard County splits sharply between east and west. The east, around Columbia, Ellicott City and Elkridge, is suburban and commercial. The west, around Glenwood, Glenelg, Woodbine, Lisbon, Dayton, Cooksville and West Friendship, is rural, with horse farms, small farms, estate properties and land in agricultural preservation. The Patuxent River and its reservoirs, Triadelphia and Rocky Gorge, form the county's southwestern edge right across from Montgomery County.
Western Howard: horse farms and estate acreage
Western Howard is horse country, and horse properties need pastures kept in shape. Pasture mowing and brush hogging keep paddocks and turnout fields productive and free of weeds, and fence-line clearing keeps board and wire fences open. Farms that put up their own hay can use our custom haying for the whole job or a single operation.
Wooded lots and stream valleys
Many western Howard properties are estate-size lots with wooded areas that have filled in with underbrush and invasive shrubs. Underbrush clearing and forestry mulching open them up while leaving the larger trees in place. Near the Patuxent and Middle Patuxent stream valleys, low-disturbance mulching is often the better choice over conventional clearing.
Eastern Howard: commercial, HOA and development
In the more developed east, the work is about large common areas, stormwater facility edges, easements and commercial grounds that need regular mowing and periodic clearing, plus lot clearing and site preparation and grading for infill and redevelopment. On permitted projects we work to the approved plan and the county's forest conservation and sediment control requirements.
Storm cleanup
When storms bring limbs down across pastures, lanes and common areas, our storm debris cleanup and debris haul-off get the property clear and safe again.
